Garrett, Watt Fight For DPOY In Divisional Week 17 MNF Game

  • T.J. Watt is favored to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year with +125 odds.
  • Myles Garrett has +1200 odds to win the Defensive player of the year.

PITTSBURGHWeek 17 of the NFL season is coming to an end with an AFC North Monday Night Football matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. Aside from the Steelers playoff hopes being on the line in this one, the NFL DPOY could very well be decided here.

As the odds sit right now, NFL online betting sites have T.J. Watt favored to win the award, however, Myles Garrett is not far behind on the odds board.

NFL DPOY Odds To Win

  • T.J. Watt +125
  • Micah Parsons +190
  • Aaron Donald +750
  • Robert Quinn +1000
  • Trevon Diggs +1000
  • Myles Garrett +1200

Watt Vs. Garrett

Although odds are favoring Watt to win the award, he and Garrett have a similar stat line on the season. Watt has the second-most sacks this season (17.5) while Garrett is tied for the third most (15).

Garrett does have a slight advantage on the sack yards with 85 to Watt’s 84 and did it in 2.5 less sacks. Watt does have more one more tackle for loss (17) and pass deflection (4) than Garrett does as well. Where Watt has completely outperformed Garrett though is in fumbles as Watt has four force fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Garrett has just one of each and a fumble returned for a touchdown.

One part of the game that Garrett has a major advantage on Watt though is his presence on the defensive line. The Browns are a top-10 defense against the run this season as they allow just 105.9 total rushing yards per game. As for the Steelers, they are the second-worst team in the league against the run allowing 142.7 rush yards per game.

Looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns matchup on Monday Night Football, Garrett has a chance to compete with Watt on the odds board if he were to have a better defensive impact. Overall, a bet on either of them to win are smart bets to make.
