WASHINGTON D.C. – The era as the Washington Football Team will be coming to an end following the 2021-22 NFL season. The Football Team was forced to move on from their previous team name due to its inappropriate meaning towards Native Americans.
With that, the Washington Football Team was born as a temporary name until team officials decide on a new name. The time has come though where the team will finally announce their new identity as they will announce it on February 2.

Washington Commanders
Some theorists believe that the stars on the back of the jersey are a giveaway to the name being that Commanders being that stars represent a commander in the military.
Another giveaway that leans even more towards the commanders is that the online domain name “WashingtonCommanders” was registered to a private owner in recent weeks.
It also just makes sense being that it fits the theme of Washington D.C. as it is the military capital of the United States.
Washington RedHogs
The nickname “RedHogs” runs deep in the Washington D.C. area as it refers to the offensive line that the team had through the 1980s and 90s. During that time period, the team won three Super Bowls.
Something else that could lean in the direction of the RedHogs is the date of the announcement. February 2 is groundhogs day and it falls in theme with the RedHogs nickname.
