GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers have run through the NFC North in recent years having won the last three division titles and eight of the last eleven as well. Oddsmakers have high hopes for them in the 2022-23 season as they sit with heavily favored odds to add one more division title to their name.
NFC North Division Odds
- Green Bay Packers -175
- Minnesota Vikings +225
- Detroit Lions +1000
- Chicago Bears +1400
It is hard seeing why NFL betting sites are high on them this season considering the amount of talent they lost across the board.
Packers Offseason Losses
- Davante Adams
- Za’Darius Smith
- Kingsley Keke
- Marquez Valdes-Scantling
- David Moore
- Billy Turner
- Chandon Sullivan
- Oren Burks
The Packers also did not do much to surround talent around Aaron Rodgers in the offseason. They added a mid-tier wide receiver in Sammy Watkins and also extended their draft streak to 20 years of not drafting a wide receiver in the first round.
Yet despite the struggles that the Packers faced in the offseason, their -175 opening odds remain their strongest opening odds in the last three seasons.
Can The Vikings Take Over?
Looking at the Minnesota Vikings, aside from their +270 odds, they have been slowly growing into one of the most lethal teams in the league on both sides of the ball. Kirk Cousins, even with all the criticism, put up an incredible 2021-22 season going for the fourth-most passing yards (4,221), seventh-most touchdowns (33), and threw the third least interceptions (7).
The rest of the Vikings offense has come together nicely with Dalvin Cook leading the way on the ground with three straight 1,100+ yard seasons. They also have both Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen in the air who both went for 10 touchdowns last season.
They were also busy in the free agency period stealing both Za’Darius Smith and Chandon Sullivan from the Packers and also adding Jordan Hicks, Chris Reed, and Nate Hairston.
It should also be noted that their last two division championships that came in 2015 and 2017 each came with over +250 odds.
The “Forgettables”
As for the rest of the division, there isn’t much to say about the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions other than they are nowhere near contending for a division title. Both have opened over +1000 odds to win which marks the second straight year for the Lions and also the Bears highest starting point since 2017.
The Lions have not won a division title since the division was created back in 2002 and have finished in last place in the last four seasons. The Bears have finished in third place in two of the last three seasons and each of those seasons have come at or below a .500 record.
