Teams On The Borderline Of Making The Playoffs, Wildcard

LAS VEGAS – While many teams are playoff locks, the edge of the playoff picture is murky for many others – and bettors can capitalize on this murkiness by wagering on playoff odds.

The Tennessee Titans have -125 odds to make the playoffs, and their O/U line for wins is set at 9, with some slight shading favoring the under.

The Titans are expected to be a force in the division, however, with -165 odds to win more than 3.5 divisional games.

Winning the division is always a reasonable path to making the playoffs, but the Titans are not the favorite to win the division, despite being expected to have a positive divisional record.

Because the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans are so far out of contention, the Titans could easily cover that 3.5 divisional win over just against those two teams, and still lose to the highly favored Indianapolis Colts twice, thereby missing out on a divisional win.

Nine or 10 wins could put the Titans in the race for the Wild Card, but the far easier option would be winning one of their two games against Indianapolis.

Both matchups against the Colts happen in October – the first on October 2, the second on October 23.

The Minnesota Vikings are in a very similar position to the Titans, but a weaker one in several respects.

While both teams have identical odds to make the playoffs, the Titans have far longer odds to win more than 3.5 divisional games.

This comes despite the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears being even more out of the division race in the NFC North than the Jags and Texans are in the AFC South.

The Vikings have a season win total of 9.5, but are even less likely to win the division than the Titans, thanks to the expected dominance of the Green Bay Packers.

This leaves the Vikings scrambling for a Wild Card spot, which raises the question of why they have the same sports betting odds as the Titans, who at least have a nominal shot at the division.
