BALTIMORE – Among teams with odds shorter than 30-1 to win the Super Bowl, the Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens were the weekend’s biggest winners according to Super Bowl 57 sportsbooks.

The Dolphins’ and Ravens’ Super Bowl odds both got shorter despite the two teams facing one another in a game that featured so little defense that Tua Tagovailoa had as many fourth-quarter touchdown passes as there were total punts (4).

The Dolphins and Ravens were not the only teams to see their odds get shorter this past weekend, but the shifting of their odds signifies the effect that Overreaction Monday can have at many Super Bowl sportsbooks.

Shorter Super Bowl odds on Overreaction Monday

Disregarding the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills who both somehow saw their Super Bowl odds get shorter despite not playing until tonight, the best way to classify the eight teams that saw their odds shorten is by contenders, 30-1 odds or shorter, and the long shots.

Contenders that saw their odds shorten

• Miami Dolphins: +2800 to +2200
• Baltimore Ravens: +1800 to +1600
• Los Angeles Rams: +1500 to +1400
• Kansas City Chiefs: +800 to +700

The Dolphins beat the Ravens 42-38 on Sunday, with both teams scoring more points than they did at any point during the 2021 season. The career-best performance of Tua Tagovailoa is the clear reason for the shifting of the Miami Dolphins Super Bowl odds, but the lack of defense on both sides may point to a lack of sustainability for either side.

The Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs saw both their Super Bowl odds shorten by +100 over the weekend following Week Two wins. Both teams were betting favorites in their games, although the Chiefs failed to cover the spread against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Rams failed to cover in their matchup versus the Atlanta Falcons.

Following a dominant Week Two victory against the Washington Commanders, the Detroit Lions’ Super Bowl odds shifted more than any other team in the NFL. Detroit has earned the praise, as they appear to have a franchise cornerstone on each side of the ball in Aidan Hutchinson (3 Sacks on Sunday) and Amon Ra St. Brown (8th straight game with at least 8 catches, had 9 receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday).

The New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars were the other two big movers, as both teams saw their Super Bowl odds shorten by +5000.

Following their 17-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots were the only other team to see their Super Bowl odds shorten after Week Two.
