PHOENIX – With Super Bowl 57 being the grandest stage of them all for the 2022-23 NFL season, it makes sense that oddsmakers have odds on if any Super Bowl records will be broken.
The different Super Bowl records that NFL betting sites have odds on if they’ll be broken or not include:
- Passing Yard Record: 505 Tom Brady
- Receiving Yard Record: 215 Jerry Rice
- Reception Record: 14 James White
- Combined Points Record: 75
- Team Points Record: 55
Yardage Records
Passing Yard Record Broken
- Yes +850
- No -2500
Receiving Yard Record
- Yes +500
- No -900
Reception Record
- Yes +650
- No -1400
The main thing holding back any of these records from being broken at Super Bowl 57 is the Philadelphia Eagles defense as well as their style of play.
The Eagles have the best passing defense in the league allowing just 179.8 yards per game this season. In their two playoff outings, they’ve allowed less than 100 yards per game.
As for their offense, they are a more run heavier offense even at QB as Jalen Hurts is a top-five rusher in the league. That takes away the opportunity for both AJ Brown and Devonta Smith to break the record.
While many could argue that the Kansas City Chiefs offense should not be counted out of any of these records, Patrick Mahomes is not going to be able to get his done with limited receiving options that aren’t named Travis Kelce.
Mahomes closest call this season was a 446-yard outing. His career high is 478 yards which also came way back in 2018. He has also only thrown for 400+ yards in the playoffs once.
The one record of the three that has the best shot at hitting though is the reception record and the one name that should be thought of is Travis Kelce. Kelce’s career-high reception total is exactly 14 and he did hit it in the playoffs this season against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He is third in the league in targets this season at 110.
Scoring Records
75 Combined Points Record Broke
- Yes +700
- No -1600
Single Team Points Record (55) Broken
- Yes +850
- No -2500
Similar to why the yardage records won't be broken is that both defenses have stood their ground this season. Philly is allowing just 20.2 ppg this season while the Chiefs are allowing 21.7 ppg.
The offenses also combine for 57.3 points on average. They would still need to find a way to add 20 points to their average if they were to each score their point averages.
