NFC Championship Game Betting Preview; 49ers Touchdown Favorites

• The San Francisco 49ers beat the Green Bay Packers 38-7 in Week 12.

SAN FRANCISCO – The NFL Playoffs are nearing its end as the Green Bay Packers head west to take on the San Francisco 49ers with a Super Bowl berth on the line.

Both teams are historic franchises that have a combined nine Super Bowl wins and 15 NFC Championships. The last time both teams met in the NFC Championship the year was 1997. While Brett Favre and Steve Young won’t be on the field to help the teams on Sunday, Aaron Rodgers and Jimmy Garoppolo will look to advance their teams to Super Bowl 54 in Miami.

The Packers will return to the scene of the first crime but this time as an even bigger underdog. In the previous meeting, Green Bay was just a three-point underdog. Now the Aaron Rodgers led squad find themselves as 7.5-point road underdogs.

Both teams have performed similarly ATS this season with the 49ers having a 10-6-1 record. The Packers were slightly better with an 11-6 record ATS. Betting ATS might be the best option for a profit in this matchup unless you’re willing to roll the dice on the Packers (+290) money line odds.

The 49ers (-360) should cover in this matchup comfortably as the Packers offense has been average and has only scored more than 25 points five times this season.

San Francisco’s defense will be vital for the team to win as they’ll have to continue to keep the pressure on Rodgers for 60 minutes. Look for the San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Nick Bosa and DeForest Buckner to both have a big game against the Packers middling offensive line.

These teams met in Week 12 of the regular season with the 49ers routing the Packers 37-8 at Levi’s Stadium. This game has the potential to mirror the Week 12 meeting because the 49ers defensive line has wreaked havoc on teams going into the final stretch of the season and that trend should continue on Sunday.

The 49ers offense hasn’t had any problems putting up points all season as they ranked second in the NFL in scoring averaging 29.9 points per game. If San Francisco can establish their running game and get out to an early lead it’d certainly make the Over on the 46.5-point total an attractive bet.

San Francisco should do the bulk of the scoring but if the Packers can somehow manufacture more than 13 points the total will go Over. It should be a very close call.
