SEATTLE - With an exciting week one of the XFL coming to a close, the Dragons left sportsbooks in a frenzy. Both teams are to blame for causing these bad beats. Hopefully, the two teams keep the excitement going into Week 2 without causing chaos for sports bettors and online betting sites.
Bad Beat #1
After a final score of 31-19 in favor of the D.C. Defenders, the over/under of 51.5 was not met. With about 12 minutes left in the game the Dragons were in field goal range on 4th down ready to take their three points when a nightmare hit sports bettors hard.
As the kick was on its way, the Defenders were called for a penalty after running into the kicker, giving Seattle a first down. This would have been alright if they countered with a score. Instead, they went on to fumble the ball and turning it over without scoring any points. The Defenders went on to run out the clock without scoring, leaving the game at 50 points.
Bad Beat #2
Other than not meeting the over/under, the Dragons were projected at a line of +9.5 which was also not met. That same running into the kicker penalty caused sports bettors to miss the potential cover, as the teams failed to make it a single-digit losing margin.
For sports bettors, the whole game seemed dependent on this one field goal attempt.
General Statistics
Aside from the bad beats, both teams put on overall decent performances as it was still an entertaining first kickoff of the new season.
Brandon Silvers had a bit of a rough day for Seattle as he threw for 217 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions throwing 21/40 (53%). On the receiving end, however, Austin Proehl had a decent game. Proehl had 10 targets with 5 receptions for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Defenders, on the other hand, had an impressive debut. Cardale Jones threw for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns with no turnovers throwing 16/26 (62%). Jones was able to spread the ball around as Eli Rogers led the team with 6 targets and 73 yards. Ultimately, it was Khari Lee and Rashad Ross who reeled in the scoring plays. Lee scored on his single target of the game which came from 39-yards. Ross went 2/2 on targets and receptions for 52-yards and a 31-yard score.
