Tyrod Taylor Favored To Be Next Chargers QB By Oddsmakers and HC

LOS ANGELES - With the Los Angeles Chargers deciding not to resign now former starting QB Philip Rivers there have been questions surrounding who would be taking his place.

Thanks to a recent interview with head coach Anthony Lynn, Chargers fans may not have to wonder for much longer.

Lynn made it very clear that he is impressed with backup QB Tyrod Taylor and with GM Tom Telesco expressing his adoration for his current roster, Taylor may be getting the starting QB job going forward into the next season.

The LA Chargers are ready to move on after deciding not to resign Rivers, who has been with the team since being drafted in 2004.

Head Coach Anthony Lynn expressed in a recent interview how pleased he has been with what he’s seen from Taylor, calling him a heck of a quarterback.

“We couldn’t have a better backup right now, and now he has an opportunity to maybe step up into a starting role,” said Lynn. “I’ve had Tyrod before [in Buffalo], and I know what this young man brings to the table, in the passing game and the running game. One of the things he does very well is take care of the football. I believe every year he’s started in this league he’s been the No. 1 quarterback in taking care of the football. I believe more games are lost than won. So if we can just take care of the football and take it away, we’ll be OK.”

Lynn isn’t wrong in his assessment of Tyler, as the veteran QB’s 1.47% interception percentage is the second lowest interception rate among QBs with at least 1,000 pass attempts in NFL history. Only behind Aaron Rodgers 1.39%.

Accuracy is something the Chargers would like to focus on going forward. Last season, Rivers managed to turn the ball over 23 times. The chargers were also 2-9 in games decided by one score. LA finished the season with a 5-11 record, leading to the eventual decision of moving on from number 17.

Another bode of confidence in the direction of Taylor comes from Chargers GM Tom Telesco.

“We do like our internal options right now, said Telesco. “Tyrod Taylor is a player that has won in this league and we think he has a style that fits what we can do.”

The NFL free agency is in five weeks so we will have to wait and see if the City of Angels decides to sign a new QB, or go forward with Taylor at the helm.
