HOUSTON — On Thursday, former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Brandin Cooks was traded to the Houston Texans. Houston sent a second-round draft pick to the Rams in exchange for Cooks and a fourth-round pick.
Many people viewed the Houston Texans as a lost cause this offseason after trading away DeAndre Hopkins. But that may not be the case after they acquire Brandin Cooks from the Rams. The addition of Cooks should more than likely have an impact on the Texans odds during this season.
Cooks Heading To H-Town
Cooks will immediately step in as the number one receiving option after the team traded away DeAndre Hopkins last month. Cooks will be joining Will Fuller and Kenny Stills in the receiving group and will also be getting an upgrade from Jared Goff under center as he will be catching footballs from Deshaun Watson.
Brandon Cooks had a pretty sizeable drop off last year going for just 583 yards and two touchdowns. Before his decline, he had his best season in yards with 1,204 yards and five touchdowns. Fans should expect him to get back over 1,000 receiving yards in the 2020 season.
Texans Odds
The addition of Cooks will certainly play a role in betting on the Texans this season. He will play a role on the Texans team wins Over/Under as well as Deshaun Watson’s Over/Under season stats.
NFL Sportsbooks have the Texans Over/Under for team wins set at 8. The Under bet is currently the favorite at -125 odds while the Over is at +105 odds. With Cooks now on the squad, the Over bet could now be a smart bet to make as he gives them a much-needed number one receiving option.
As for Deshaun Watson’s season stats Over/Under bets, those could see a shift as well. Online sportsbooks have Watsons’ passing touchdown total set at 26.5. The Under bet is favored here at -125 while the Over is at -105. Betting on the Over could turn out well for bettors as Cooks gives Watson another reliable endzone threat in addition to Fuller and Stills.
As for Watson's passing yard total Over/Under, that is set at 4099.5 yards. The Under bet is favored here at -135 and the Over is set at +105. Even though Cooks is a nice addition, he will likely not be enough to push Watson's yards to the Over bet. Even when DeAndre Hopkins was on the team last year, Watson did not surpass that mark. It would be wise to follow the odds here and take the Under bet.
