WASHINGTON — The nameless NFL franchise in the nation's capital has finally selected a team name for the upcoming football season.
Going into Week 1, the former Washington Redskins will now be called the Washington Football Team for the 2020 NFL regular season. By choosing this name for the 2020 season Washington’s front office along with owner Daniel Snyder will have more time to develop the team's new nickname and logo.
Effective immediately, Washington will call itself the “Washington Football Team”, pending adoption of a new name, sources tell ESPN.

The name change comes in the wake of intense backlash the team has faced over the past decade finally reaching a boiling point ignited by today’s social climate. Now that the team has retired all Redskins branded paraphernalia their products can return to the NFL Shop, Fanatics, and Nike.
Being called the Washington’s Football Team won’t keep the team from being mediocre at best in new head coach Ron Rivera’s first season. The Washington Football Team’s Super Bowl 55 odds are among the longest available at +20000.
Could The Washington Football Team Finish Third?
Bovada doesn’t think the Washington Football Team will be competitive this year as they’re favored at -150 odds to finish in last place of the NFC East.
Finishing Position - NFC East - Washington Football Team
- 1st +1200
- 2nd +750
- 3rd +175
- 4th -150
Washington had a solid draft this year and betting on the team to finish in the top half of the division is not plausible.
However, the +175 odds on the team to place 3rd in the NFC East are well worth the dice roll especially since the New York Giants are Washington’s only competition for third place. As both teams aim to make it out of the basement of the division, it will be tough as the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are the better teams by a sizable gap.
The WAS Football Team improving their place in the NFC East over the course of one season will be dependent on second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins taking the next step in his development. Second overall pick Chase Young and Ryan Kerrigan leading the way for the defense the Washington Football Team has the talent on their roster to win more games than the Giants in 2020.
With the start of the NFL regular season only 49 days away fans won’t have to wait long to see the newly named Washington Football Team take the field as Week 1 they’ll host the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
