Jaguars SB 55 Odds Stay At Rock Bottom After Fournette Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially completed their purge of the 2017 team that was only one game away from going to the Super Bowl. The Jaguars have made it clear that they’re rebuilding going into the future and have a plethora of NFL Draft capital stacked in the coming years.

On Monday, there are only a handful of players from that AFC Championship runner up team still with the organization.

The latest moves by Jacksonville echoed their commitment to rebuilding their roster from the ground up around sophomore quarterback Gardner Minshew.

This morning the team released running back Leonard Fournette after failing to find a team willing to trade for the fourth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Releasing Fournette shouldn’t come as a surprise as the Jags made it clear they were trying to trade the fourth year running back. While no team would trade for the former LSU tailback it’s expected that he’ll sign with a team before the season starts.

With Fournette out of the picture, Jacksonville will now turn to a running back committee headlined by Chris Thompson who followed new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden to Jacksonville from the Washington Football Team.

Jacksonville wasn’t done making changes to their roster only two weeks before opening kickoff, the team finally traded disgruntled defensive lineman Yannick Ngakoue to the Minnesota Vikings. In exchange for Ngakoue the Jags will receive a second-round draft pick as well as a conditional fifth round pick that could turn into a third round selection by the end of the season.

These roster moves have kept the Jaguars Super Bowl 55 odds among the longest in the NFL and expect these transactions to cause the Jaguars +30000 odds to become even longer.

Sportsbooks still see the Jaguars as one of the worst teams in the league as the team has the shortest odds (+175) to record the fewest wins in the AFC, as well as the NFL (+300).

The Jags do have one of the worst rosters in the NFL but this is a team that won six games last season with a rookie quarterback. Playing in the AFC should help the Jaguars stay out of getting the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

For the last decade Jacksonville has been one of the worst teams in the NFL and they’ve spent a majority of time picking early in the draft. Take the +175 odds on the Jags to have the fewest wins in the AFC but avoid them being the worst team in the NFL as the Washington Football Team will likely take that honor.

With another rebuild on the way for the Jaguars finding the talent in the draft has never been an issue for the Jaguars it’s keeping the talent and top draft picks that have plagued the franchise.

This season the Jaguars will see what they have in Gardner Minshew. Although they don’t have many pieces around him yet, if he leads this team to at least 5 wins he’ll have earned the right to be the franchise quarterback. If not, Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields will be given a good look by the Jaguars.

Now, a moment of silence for Sacksonville and one of the greatest defenses we’ve seen in the past decade. Three years later and all the Jags have is a plethora of draft picks that they hope will pan out.

The now Fournette-less Jaguars will be taking on the AFC South division rival the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.
