Can The Bears Take Control Of The NFC North?

• The Chicago Bears have the second shortest odds to win the NFC North at +250.

CHICAGO - The Chicago Bears have been one of the most surprising teams to start the NFL regular season with a 2-0 record thus far.

The Bears comeback victory against the Detroit Lions in Week 1 set the tone for this team displaying that they’ll be a competitive team in every game this season despite being led by former No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky, who many thought would lose his starting job to the new acquisition Nick Foles.

However, Trubisky was able to win the quarterback competition this offseason and has put up 432 passing yards, five touchdowns, while only throwing two interceptions.

The former North Carolina Tar Heel has excelled in play action and throws outside of the pocket this season. His athleticism helps Trubisky improv outside of the pocket forcing linebackers to pick their poison per se as evidence by Trubisky’s touchdown throw to running back David Montgomery in the win against the New York Giants.

When looking at the NFC North the Bears have actually exceeded expectations even though they’ve faced lackluster teams in the first two weeks.

Those two wins have put Chicago in second place behind the Green Bay Packers who are also undefeated this season.

The Packers won the NFC North last year and look poised to dominate the division again with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers under center.

This is the NFL and the Bears shouldn’t be counted out, especially with their defense still being one of the top units in the league but they’re a team that still has a long way to go on offense to even be considered a playoff contender in a stacked NFC.

Taking the +250 Bears odds doesn’t come without a major risk. The Packers are the best team in the NFC North by far and were one game away from making the Super Bowl last year.

Although Chicago has made strides on the offensive side of the ball, they’ve faced inferior opponents this season and needed a last second score to beat the Detroit Lions who will likely finish in last place of the NFC North.

The Giants are a team the Bears should’ve beat by a bigger margin had they not had two interceptions from Trubisky. While the Bears did win this game, these types of performances can’t happen against playoff teams which is why bettors should fade the Bears +250 odds to win the NFC North.

The Bears should finish higher than the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions in the NFC North but overtaking the Green Bay Packers is a different story. It’s still early in the season but until the Bears play some tougher competition it'll be hard to invest in their odds of overtaking the Packers.

Nonetheless, the Bears have a chance to remain undefeated despite being a 3.5-point underdog to the winless Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.

While the Bears may not take control of the NFC North, they’ll be in the hunt for a Wild Card spot by the end of the season.
