- The Houston Texans have the shortest odds to have the worst regular-season record in the NFL.
- The team also has the longest betting odds to make the playoffs with No coming in at -1400.
- Houston’s win total is set at 4, the lowest of any team in the league.
HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have many issues with their franchise and are projected to have the worst record in the NFL. The team has the ability to overachieve, but what is the likelihood of it actually happening?
The Texans Odds Project A Bad Season
The Houston Texans have plenty of issues throughout the franchise, but most of their projected struggles are due to the apparent loss of Deshaun Watson. Watson’s return to Houston was already an unsure thing as he allegedly requested a trade, but his 22 lawsuits even further fogged his future, not only with the Texans but with any franchise.
Regardless of the reasoning, many odds are predicting that Houston will be the worst team in the league and some predict that there isn’t a team nearly as bad.
Worst Regular Season Record Odds
- Houston Texans +150
- Detroit Lions +400
- Cincinnati Bengals +1000
- Jacksonville Jaguars +1000
- New York Jets +1000
Not only do the Texans have the shortest odds of any team to have the worst regular-season record, but they have +30000 odds to have the best record, good for the longest odds of any franchise.
As anyone betting on football may be able to guess, the Texans also have the worst chance to make the playoffs, at least according to sports betting sites.
Houston Texas Odds To Make Playoffs
- Yes +650
- No -1400
The Texans’ “No” odds are by far the shortest, with the Detroit Lions having the closest odds at -900. To cap off the odds projecting Houston to be the worst team, their team win total is set at 4, the lowest of any team.
Houston Texans Win Total Odds
- Over 4 -115
- Under 4 -115
Even the Lions have a higher win total at 4.5 and their Over is favored with -140 odds.
While the Lions are set to win at least five games, the Texans are essentially given a 50/50 chance to reach four wins.
How Houston Can Reach These Marks
Unfortunately, the best way for Houston to succeed this season is an unlikely possibility. Having Watson on the field would likely promise at least four wins but even he may not be able to bring this team to the playoffs.
The Texans play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 and will likely tell the tale for the season. If they aren’t able to beat a rookie quarterback and first-time NFL head coach in their first career games, there may not be a team that Houston can beat. Jacksonville are three-point favorites in Week 1.
However, the team’s top corner, Bradley Roby, will miss the game as he serves a suspension.
Without Watson, the Texans will rely on a less talented roster than many of the opponents they will face. That group will be headlined by the running back room comprised of David Johnson, Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram.
