- The AFC’s top seeds, the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, received a first-round bye.
- The San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers earned the playoff bye week for the NFC.
- The Philadelphia Eagles will play host to the Seattle Seahawks, who finished with a better record.
PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the eight teams playing this upcoming weekend for the opening round of the NFL playoffs.
The wild card round generally features at least one surprise team coming out victorious and with the recent struggles and successes of some teams, it will appear the same will happen this year.
Though the Eagles finished tied with the worst record of any playoff team, they are still able to play host, per the rules of the NFL. Because they won their division, their position of at least the four seed was locked up and will now play a Seattle Seahawks team that won 11 games on the year.
Betting On The Eagles And Seahawks
Line movement is inevitable in the NFL betting standards, but early lines suggest that Seahawks (-130) will be the victor over the Eagles (+110). Despite being at home, the Eagles are 1.5-point underdogs.
Bettors who haven’t paid attention to the NFC betting odds in a while may choose the Seahawks, as their impressive play at the beginning of the season has kept them well in the hunt. However, as of late, the Seahawks have been on a slight decline and even had to resort to singing their old running back in Marshawn Lynch.
Still, the Seahawks have won at least one playoff game in six of the seven playoff games that the Seahawks (under Pete Carroll) have appeared in. Betting on the Seahawks might still be the safe play, despite the sole winless playoff appearance occurring last season.
The Eagles should give bettors plenty of confidence moving forward, though. Winning five of their last six, the Eagles have a streak of four straight wins to push them throughout the playoffs. When it comes to betting on the Super Bowl, the teams that are the hottest at the right time generally are the ones who make bettors plenty of money at the end of the season.
With this, look for the Eagles to come out as the winner of the wild card round versus the Seahawks. Being at home and finally having figured out their strategy may be all it takes for the Eagles to make their way to the divisional round – a place they have seen in both of the last two seasons.
