- Super Bowl winners have gone 18-3 SU in Week 1 games.
- Jonathan Taylor has +450 odds to lead the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns.
- The Seattle Seahawks have -200 odds to finish in last place in the NFC West.
LOS ANGELES – The NFL season is right around the corner with just one week until the preseason kicks off meaning betting odds have been unleashed for many weeks already. Some bets to keep an eye on include game lines for Week 1, player futures odds, and division odds.
Betting On Super Bowl Winners & Losers In Week 1
Kicking off the season on Thursday Night Football in Week 1 is a matchup between the reigning Super Bowl Champions, Los Angeles Rams, and Buffalo Bills. Although the Rams are a +1 underdog in this one, Super Bowl winners have done an incredible job in Week 1 games over the last 21 seasons.
In that span, Super Bowl champs have gone 18-3 straight up and 13-6-2 against the spread.
The straight up record has taken off even further in recent seasons as champs have gone 7-1 in the last eight season winning the last four.
Looking at the Super Bowl loser, the Cincinnati Bengals, they are on a concerning side of a Week 1 trend. Super Bowl losers have done horrendous against the spread in the last 22 seasons at a 4-18 record.
In the last eight seasons, that trend has taken an even deeper dive going 2-6 in that span. As for their matchup in Week 1, they are 6.5-point favorites against the Pittsburgh Steelers in which they’ve gone 3-11 against them since 2015.
Will Jonathan Taylor Backup His Breakout Season?
Odds To Lead NFL In Rushing Yards
- Jonathan Taylor +450
Odds To Lead NFL In Rushing Touchdowns
- Jonathan Taylor +450
Jonathan Taylor is coming off a major breakout season where he went for 1,811 rushing yards, 18 touchdowns, and 332 attempts which all of were first in the league. That being said, Taylor is favored to run it back as both the rushing yard and rushing touchdown leader.
Starting with his rushing yards, Taylor will certainly get his touches being that he is running behind arguably the best offensive line in the league that features Quenton Nelson, Ryan Kelly, and Braden Smith. This unit allowed Taylor to lead the league in another impressive category which is yards before contact in which he put up 518 yards, 70 more than the second highest.
If they can continue this work, it is hard seeing JT take even the slightest step back this season.
As for his odds to lead the league in touchdowns, Taylor was the most efficient running back in the league when it came down to redzone rushing attempts. Taylor had an 80.2% rush rate in the redzone in which he was able to convert 14 touchdowns on 85 attempts.
When inside the 10-yard line, he went for 13 touchdowns on 41 attempts, and had 11 touchdowns on 26 attempts from inside the 5-yard line. With some monstrous efficiency, the Indianapolis Colts will likely have a similar game plan for Taylor whenever they get in the redzone.
The Fall Of The Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks To Finish Last In NFC West
- Yes -200
Although these are the most expensive NFL odds on this list, the Seattle Seahawks are in the worst position of any team in the division after taking a deep nose dive in the offseason. They parted ways with their franchise quarterback in Russell Wilson, defensive anchors Bobby Wagner and D.J. Reed, and running back, Chris Carson to retirement.
Seattle has already been on a downwards slope being that they finished in last place last season and with their clear vision of a rebuild, they are likely to finish in last place once more. Also, they share the division with two clear Super Bowl contenders in the LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers, both of which were in the NFC Championship game a year ago.
