LAS VEGAS – After the 2021-2022 NFL season schedule released, betting odds promptly followed for the Week 1 set of games. At this point, it’s more or less a guessing game as to which teams will improve from last season, but that means it’s the best time to cash in on some favorable lines.
Minnesota Vikings -3 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The Minnesota Vikings will play the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 and open as three-point favorites in the contest. NFL bettors may find value in the Vikings as they seem to match up well against the Bengals.
Dalvin Cook is one of the most dynamic players in the league and will be going up against what was a porous rushing defense in Cincinnati. The Bengals allowed 148.0 rush yards per game, fourth-most in the NFL last season.
Cincinnati added a couple of defensive pieces in free agency, but nothing that will revolutionize the ability to stop the run.
Plus, Joe Burrow will be playing his first game since his season-ending knee surgery and could be rusty in his return.
Seattle Seahawks +2.5 vs. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts will be playing their first game with new quarterback Carson Wentz against the Seattle Seahawks. Wentz quickly went from MVP candidate to backup QB with the Eagles and is looking to get back on track with a new offense.
The Seattle Seahawks had some issues last year but still finished the season 12-4. The team is generally improved from a season ago aside from possibly cornerback and wide receiver depth.
If sports betting sites are going to give out Russell Wilson as an underdog, there are probably a lot of people who will jump on it and it’s tough to find many arguments against that logic, especially against a quarterback in a new system for the first time.
New England Patriots -1.5 Vs. Miami Dolphins
The New England Patriots had a disappointing season, at least for Patriots standards, but will a much different team this time around. The Pats had a league-high eight players opt out last season but will return key players like Dont’a Hightower and Marcus Cannon to the roster.
Even with Cam Newton, the Patriots shouldn’t have too much trouble covering 1.5 points against Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins.
Bill Belichick’s defenses are known for giving young quarterbacks issues and held Tagovailoa to just 145 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception last year. The New England offense might not put up a ton of points, but it should be enough given their elite defense and unproven Miami offense.
Tennessee Titans -2.5 vs Arizona Cardinals
The Tennessee Titans will play the Arizona Cardinals in their first game of the year and will be 2.5-point favorites when doing so.
Tennessee has one of the best offenses in the NFL as they scored the fourth-most points per game last year and ran for the second-most yards in the league. The only offense to put up more yards per game than the Titans (396.4) was the Kansas City Chiefs.
Derrick Henry is practically unstoppable and the Arizona defense, while has been solid against the run, allowed 183 yards to Jeff Wilson while C.J. Beathard was quarterbacking the 49ers.
This game is projected to be a shootout with a total of 51.0 so it could come down to who has the ball last.
