Bill Belichick Seen As 7-Point Underdog For 12th Time In Career

  • The Kansas City Chiefs hold a 7-point spread over the New England Patriots Week 4.
  • The Chiefs are heavy favorites to beat the Patriots with -320 odds.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. The New England Patriots are set to take on the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs this week.

During this game, for the 12th time in his New England Patriots career, Bill Belichick is seen as a 7-point underdog while the Patriots are playing at Gillette Stadium.

In addition to the Patriots being the underdogs on the spread, NFL sportsbooks also have the Kansas City Chiefs as heavy favorites to win the game on the moneyline as well with -320 odds while the Patriots are at +260.

This marks just the third time in 18 years that the New England Patriots have been an underdog by a touchdown or more.

When the Patriots were last a 7-point or more underdog was in 2016 in their home opener against the Arizona Cardinals when Tom Brady did not play due to suspension.

They not only covered the spread, but they won the game.

In the 11 games that Belichick has been seen as a 7-point or more underdog, he has not disappointed as he has gone 9-2 thus far. However, if there was ever a time that Bill Belichick adds another loss to his 9-2 record, it would make sense for it to come now against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Since 2013 when Andy Reid was hired as the Chiefs head coach, they have been seen as a 7-point or more favorite in 31 games. In those 31 games where they were favored, they have gone 24-7.

The Chiefs are the top dog in the league right now and have proven this being that they took down the Baltimore Ravens and the reigning MVP, Lamar Jackson, in Week 3 by a two-touchdown margin.

Not to take anything away from the New England Patriots at all as they have been able to stay relevant despite losing Tom Brady, but if the Chiefs are able to win by two touchdowns on the Baltimore Ravens, those betting on the Patriots have reason for concern no matter how tough this New England defense might be.

With the odds not on their side and the spread being where it is, bettors should not hold their breath on the Patriots in Week 4 as this might seem like too big of a challenge for them.
