- Bruce Arians has +1200 odds to win the AP Coach of the Year Award.
- New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is tied with the shortest odds to win the award.
- Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has the third shortest odds to win the Coach of the Year at +1400.
DALLAS — NFL bettors still have three months until the regular season kicks off but that shouldn’t stop bettors from placing bets on the NFL.
As the odds are currently primed for a better return now, bettors would be wise to take the longer odds than they would see if making the same bets during the season.
Now that the NFL Draft and free agency have passed, it’s easier to gauge what teams improved this offseason making it much more clear to find a potential Coach of the Year candidate.
The NFL’s Coach of the Year odds have some intriguing odds even at the top of the odds board where the shortest odds come in over +1000 odds.
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians are tied with the shortest odds to win the award at +1200.
AP Coach of The Year 2020 Odds
- Bill Belichick +1200
- Bruce Arians +1200
- Mike McCarthy +1400
- Frank Reich +1600
- Andy Reid +1800
Out of the top five coaches on the oddsboard, there are two coaches who’s odds and current team situation give them the best chance at winning the award.
Those coaches are Tampa Bay Bucs head coach Bruce Arians and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.
Bruce Arians (+1200)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the 2019 season with a 7-9 record in Bruce Arians first season as head coach.
The Buccaneers then let former No.1 overall pick Jameis Winston walk to the New Orleans Saints in free agency.
However, the reason why Arians is a favorite to win the COTY is because of who will be replacing Winston. Six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady will be under center for the Buccaneers this season which has put Arians in the driver’s seat of the odds for the award.
Brady along with Rob Gronkowski will look to get the Buccaneers to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.
If Arians and the Buccaneers win their division and make the postseason, he’s a lock to win Coach of the Year because of the overnight improvement of the Buccaneers.
This makes Arians +1200 odds right now a steal and the fact that those are the shortest odds on the board should make bettors take advantage of the odds before they shift.
Mike McCarthy (+1400)
The Dallas Cowboys finally divorced themselves from long time head coach Jason Garrett and brining in Mike McCarthy should make the team better.
The Cowboys finished last season with an 8-8 record which considering the talent on this roster was a major underachievement as the Cowboys missed the playoffs.
Bringing in McCarthy should change things around for the Cowboys and depending on where they finish in the standings he’ll be among the top three finalists for the award this year.
McCarthy has already built a better roster by adding defensive lineman Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe, which improved on one of their biggest needs this offseason.
The +1400 odds on McCarthy to win the award are the third shortest and any bettor looking for odds outside of Bruce Arians or Bill Belichick should be drooling over McCarthy’s odds.
The Cowboys will have all eyes on them this season but with this young talented roster and McCarthy’s coaching experience this could be the perfect storm for a breakout season.
