- Deebo Samuel suffered a foot injury and will be out for what could be the majority of the 2020 season.
- This loss is huge for the 49ers as they are the favorite (+525 odds) to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 55.
- Samuel played a big role in the team's success last year and the offense will have to figure out how to compensate for his absence to win games this season.
SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is slated to undergo surgery after breaking his foot during a workout this week.
The second-year receiver suffered a Jones fracture and this could leave the 49ers without what looked to be their WR1 this year for 12 to 16 weeks.
For a presumptive front runner in the NFC, this injury could change the team’s Super Bowl 55 odds and their chance to keep the NFC Champion title.
Odds the Win The NFC Championship
- San Francisco 49ers +525
- New Orleans Saints +550
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers +550
- Dallas Cowboys +900
Samuel showed his importance during the team’s postseason run to last year’s Super Bowl with 10 receptions for 12 yards. He also ran the ball six times for 102 yards in the three postseason games.
The 49ers’ wideout had a big impact on the team with 57 catches for 802 yards and three touchdowns during the regular season.
For the first time in 49ers’ history, a rookie had three games with 100+ receiving yards.
Ending last season with the second-highest receiving yards behind George Kittle, Samuel would have been one of the main targets for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo especially with the loss of WR Emmanuel Sanders.
It will be interesting to see if the offense can adjust and still win the games sportsbooks have them winning throughout the season.
Regular Season Game Week 1
- Arizona Cardinals +275
- San Franciso 49ers -350
Despite Samuel likely being absent for Week 1, the Niners are still favored over NFC West division opponent in the Arizona Cardinals.
#49ers WR Deebo Samuel suffered a broken foot on Tuesday during a throwing session with teammates in Nashville and will be having surgery today, I’m told. It is a Jones fracture, and he should be able to be on the field early in the season.

This year’s offseason has been unusual for the NFL but unfortunately, the 49ers are also facing an injury to one of their top players.
San Francisco has time to figure out how to make up for the loss before the season and the start of the teams hopeful run back to the Super Bowl.
