- Only six teams have made the playoffs after starting the season 0-3.
- Both the Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans have underdog odds to make the playoffs.
- Houston (-180) is favored in the Week 4 battle over Minnesota, who has +160 odds.
HOUSTON – In a 2020 season that had high expectations for the Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans, the NFL is heading into Week 4 and both of these teams are looking to get their first win.
At 0-3, the Vikings and Texans are far from their opening Super Bowl odds (+3000) and have trended downward rather quickly during the season’s first quarter of the season.
Sitting with +9000 (Vikings) and +12500 (Texans) odds to win the Super Bowl, the teams' playoff hopes aren’t completely lost however they don’t look positive either.
Since 1980, there have been six teams to make the NFL playoffs who started the season 0-3.
0-3 NFL Playoff Teams:
- 1981 NY Jets – lost in the wildcard
- 1982 TB Buccaneers – lost in the wildcard
- 1992 SD Chargers – lost in the divisional round
- 1995 DET Lions – lost in the wildcard
- 1998 BUF Bills – lost in the wildcard
- 2018 HOU Texans – lost in the wildcard
While the Texans are one of the teams to make this happen in recent years, the sheer chances of it occurring again are slim. Still, there is talent on both of these teams so counting them out might not be the best situation either.
Odds To Make The Playoffs:
- HOU: Yes (+425)
- MIN: Yes (+340)
As both are underdogs to make the playoffs, the focus will first turn to Week 4 when they battle each other in attempts to get their first win. Whoever doesn’t win this weekend’s matchup will be put in an even further hole, as the 1992 Chargers remain the only team to fall to 0-4 and still make the playoffs.
The home team Texans take the favorite status in their attempts to remain relevant.
MIN vs. HOU:
- Moneyline: MIN (+160) vs. HOU (-180)
- Spread: Texans -3.5
- Total: 53.5 Points
All eyes will certainly be on this matchup despite both teams being 0-3. With the amount of talent between Deshaun Watson and Dalvin Cook, only one will be able to lead their team to their first win in 2020.
After it's all said and done, the Vikings and Titans could turn around their season and become the seventh 0-3 NFL team to make the playoffs.
When it is all said and done, maybe we will see another 0-3 NFL team make the playoffs.
