• QB Dak Prescott passed for over 400 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 of the NFL season.
• Prescott was already near the top of the “Comeback Player of the Year” odds boards on sportsbooks.
• Now, he’s the sole favorite, with +125 odds to win the award.
DALLAS – QB Dak Prescott had an amazing game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to open the 2021-2022 NFL season.
The Cowboys signal-caller passed for 403 yards in a Dallas loss to the Bucs, but a valiant effort by Dak was enough to get the sportsbooks moving.
Prescott, who was leading the NFL in passing yards before his injury in 2020, was already a notable contender to win the Comeback Player of the Year award.
Now, he’s unrivaled as he sits at the top of the odds boards in terms of winning this specific award.
NFL 2021-2022 Comeback Player of the Year Odds
- Dak Prescott +125
- Joe Burrow +700
- Christian McCaffrey +800
- Saquon Barkley +800
- Carson Wentz +1000
- Jameis Winston +1000
It seems as though people just needed to see that he could play at the level he was playing at before the injury that derailed his 2020 season.
Dak’s Back In 2021
Dak Prescott came out of the gate firing, and looked comfortable in the pocket throughout the game.
A nagging shoulder injury seemed to be managed well, although he did have some issues with accuracy at times during the game.
The role of game planning in Prescott’s amazing return to the league should not be overlooked either.
Prescott’s Cowboys were facing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that was dominant at the line of scrimmage, but mediocre in the secondary.
This was further exacerbated by an injury to Buccaneers CB Shaun Murphy-Bunting during the middle of the game.
The Cowboys did not challenge the monsters in the middle of the Bucs D-Line, Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea, by running the ball.
Instead, they passed it on nearly every down, and Prescott racked up a mammoth 58 passing attempts in the game.
This might not be how the Cowboys approach other matchups. No team in the NFL has a D-Line so good that it demands Ezekiel Elliott be relegated to blocking duty.
However, Prescott was a passer of an extremely high caliber before the injury, and his return has marked a claim to that spot once again.
If Prescott has a season in which he leads the NFL in passing yards, or comes close to it, it seems like this award will be wrapped up in a bow for him.
Barring injury, it might already be close to a wrap, according to the NFL betting markets.
