Does Cam Newton Have A Shot To Win An NFC East Title With The Redskins?

WASHINGTON — The Washington Redskins made some major changes this offseason to both their roster and coaching staff.

The Redskins sent head coach Jay Gruden packing after he spent the last five seasons with the team.

Now, Gruden is the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars while former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is the new man in charge in the nation’s capital.

With Rivera in charge, the Redskins have embraced a full on rebuild around rising quarterback Dwayne Haskins. However, with Rivera’s former quarterback Cam Newton a free agent it leaves the door open for a possible reunion for the two of them.

Haskins does present a problem for Newton taking over the starting spot but even if the Redskins added Newton, they’d still likely be stuck in the basement of the NFC East.

Teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles seem poised to dominate the division this season.

A Newton/Rivera reunion might shorten the Redskins odds to win the NFC East a little bit but the team has a lot to prove heading into this season.

Washington finished the 2019 regular season with 3-13 record and the team has lost talent in key positions including trading away disgruntled left tackle Trent Williams.

For this prop its best to take the +200 odds on the Redskins to finish third in the NFC East standing at the conclusion of this upcoming season.

In short, adding Cam Newton wouldn’t do much for the overall trajectory of the Washington Redskins season.

Their +1400 odds to win the NFC East are the longest in the division and the team will need time to transition under Ron Rivera.

With or without Newton the Redskins remain one of the worst teams in an improving NFC East. All in all Cam Newton is a long shot to even sign with the Redskins but doing so and winning an NFC East title with them is even more of a longshot.
