- Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith were signed by the New England Patriots in the offseason.
- Henry has season total projections of 560.5 yards and 4.5 touchdowns.
- Smith has totals of 525.5 yards and 4.5 touchdowns with betting odds favoring the Under.
FOXBORO, Mass. – The New England Patriots went on a spending spree this offseason, notably adding two top tight ends to the roster.
In what seems to be an attempt to recreate the Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez duo, the odds suggest they will not be as impactful.
The Dual Tight End Impact
The New England Patriots are attempting to recreate their early-2010’s offense that used two tight ends and was considered to be the best offense in the NFL at the time.
Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez played just three seasons together but made a lasting impact on the league. In their rookie seasons, Gronk tallied 546 yards and 10 touchdowns while Hernandez recorded 563 yards and six touchdowns.
However, their second season is when things really popped off.
Gronkowski put up 1327 yards and 17 touchdowns while Hernandez added 910 yards and seven touchdowns. That type of season may never be seen again from tight ends on the same team, but the Patriots will be hoping to get at least a solid portion of it from the newly-signed Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith.
Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry Odds
The Patriots’ offense isn’t too pass-heavy with Cam Newton under center as they were just one of three teams to run the ball on over 50% of their offensive plays in 2020 and did so even more often than the Tennessee Titans. Maybe the additions could help change that.

- 560.5 yards -115/-115

NFL betting sites have modest totals for the duo heading into the new season.
Jonnu Smith Receiving Yards and TDs Totals

These numbers match pretty well with Gronk and Hernandez’s rookie season totals, a season in which New England went 14-2.
New England Patriots Win Total
- Over 9.5 -135
- Under 9.5 +105
The Patriots aren’t expected to make the Super Bowl in the 2021-2022 season, but have a respectable win total and a reasonable chance to reach the postseason.
New England Patriots To Make Playoffs
- Yes +110
- No -145
Henry and Smith are talented in the receiving game, but the part of their game that probably intrigues Bill Belichick the most is their ability to block. Just how the two are used in the offense is yet to be seen but it’s fair to assume they’ll be playing a big part in everything the Patriots do.
