- Zach Wilson’s -225 odds are the shortest odds of any prospect to be drafted with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft.
- The New York Jets are the favorite at -145 odds to have Sam Darnold playing on the team for Week 1 of the regular season.
NEW YORK – The New York Jets and their new head coach Robert Saleh have a lot of work to do in their attempt to turn the franchise around.
The Jets most recently finished the regular season with a 2-14 record, which extended the team’s streak of not finishing above .500 to five seasons. That 2-14 record earned the New York Jets the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and it’s assumed that they’ll take a quarterback with that selection.
Jets could pick Zach Wilson second overall after taking Sam Darnold with the third pick in 2018 Draft. If that happens, they would become the first team in the Common Draft Era, since 1967, to select two QBs in the top three overall picks in a four-year span, per @EpKap.

The quarterback decision the Jets make is between BYU Cougars quarterback Zach Wilson and Ohio State Buckeyes signal-caller Justin Fields. However, it seems as if the Jets might already be sold on selecting Wilson with the second overall pick in the draft.
Wilson participated in BYU’s Pro Day Friday with the Jets coaches and management seeing firsthand the talent that the Cougars quarterback possess.
Well, that was some show Zach Wilson put on today at the BYU pro day.
Joe Douglas and the #Jets got a really good look at the QB who could go No. 2 overall. Surely had feelings about him (either way) reinforced today. pic.twitter.com/9Pwoz7ECcB

Bovada has listed betting odds on what player will be selected second in the Draft as the Jets don’t seem interested In trading down in the draft.
Who Will Be Selected Second Overall in the 2021 NFL Draft
- Zach Wilson -225
- Justin Fields +350
- Trey Lance +700
- Penei Sewell +1400
- Trevor Lawrence +2500
- DeVonta Smith +10000
After seeing Wilson’s pro day there’s likely little doubt that the Jets will make him the second player taken off the board in the upcoming NFL Draft. Wilson is listed at -225 odds to be the No. 2 pick in the Draft and his arm talent is a big reason why.
“That’s the throw of the Pro Day season right now.”

The public flirting between the Jets and Wilson has already begun as after his Pro Day he stated he likes what the team has going.
“Great staff, love those guys. Joe Douglas is a great guy. … They got a good thing going.”

As the Jets sets their sights on Wilson a lot remains to be seen what will be done with the last quarterback the Jets drafted with a top 5 pick in Sam Darnold. The young signal-caller has yet to find his way in New York and the team will likely trade him sometime before or after the draft. However, knowing that the Jets are this high on Wilson early will hurt his trade value.

As Darnold seems to be on his way out of New York with Wilson likely being the No. 2 pick Bovada has listed betting odds on which team will land the services of the former USC Trojan.
Where Will Sam Darnold Play For Game 1 Of The 2021 Regular Season?
- New York Jets-145
- San Francisco 49ers+275
- Carolina Panthers+300
- Denver Broncos+300
- Houston Texans+2000
Although the Jets are the favorite at -145 odds, it is unlikely that they keep Darnold on the roster especially if the team takes Wilson with the second pick. The San Francisco 49ers at +275 can also be ruled out after making a trade for the No. 3 overall pick with the Miami Dolphins as it’s assumed they’ll take whichever quarterback of the Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, or Justin Fields trio that falls to them.
The Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos are both the most intriguing options as a possible suitor for Darnold as they have the assets necessary to get a deal done while also having a clear need at the position. Despite the Chicago Bears signing Andy Dalton to a deal this offseason, they could also make a trade for Darnold as he would represent a clear upgrade at quarterback.
Nonetheless, it seems as if the Jets have already made it clear which player they want on their team moving forward and that is BYU quarterback Zach Wilson who will likely be the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
