NFL Scouts, XFL Bettors Keeping A Close Eye On Cardale Jones

  • Cardale Jones has proved that he is not to be overlooked.
  • The Defenders and Wildcats face off on Sunday.
  • Walker, Phillips, and Spruce could also make a case for the NFL.

LOS ANGELES - Cardale Jones has been playing like he has something to prove, which he does. He has led his team to a 2-0 start of the new XFL season. He has been making heads turn and forcing people to watch him play as if he’s leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to another National Championship.

Jones leads the list of names of players who could possibly make an argument for an NFL roster. PJ Walker, Cam Phillips, and Nelson Spruce have found themselves in the XFL and are making it known that they can potentially help an NFL team’s  Super Bowl betting odds.

Cardale Jones Back To The NFL?

Cardale Jones has been on an absolute mission during the revamped XFL season. He is undoubtedly the most talented quarterback in the league thus far. His stats through two games are at an elite level. Throwing for 511 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception with an impressive 102 QB rating.

“I think it was a great opportunity for me to take advantage of the opportunity to have finally have a chance to start and play and contribute to the organization instead of just being a practice player in the NFL—I was lucky enough to be in a room with some unbelievable quarterbacks, first in Buffalo with EJ Manuel and a guy named Tyrod Taylor who we all know of,” said Cardale Jones.

Jones was actually drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round of the NFL Draft after looking promising at Ohio State. He only managed to get 11 pass attempts before the Bills decided to move on. Jones ended up with the then, San Diego Chargers to serve behind Philip Rivers.

“To learn behind them guys—and definitely when I got out to the Chargers and being in the room with a guy like Philip Rivers who really elevated my game and Kellen Clemens—elevate my game from a mental standpoint the first week I was there, it literally made me feel like I never played football a day in my life being around them guys because of the way they approach each and every game and each and every practice,” Jones continued.

Jones will look to keep his game at an elite status this Sunday and remain undefeated as they have a matchup with a high scoring LA Wildcats offense.

Other Players Worthy Of Making The NFL

Besides Jones, there are other names in the XFL that have been turning heads. PJ Walker, Cam Philips, and Nelson Spruce have been playing at high levels.

PJ Walker

Walker, the quarterback for the Houston Roughnecks, has been on a tear in the stat sheet so far this season. Walker leads the league with a 107.4 quarterback rating. He also leads the league in touchdowns with seven. Walker proved in college that he was something special.

He finished his career at Temple University with 10,668 yards and 74 touchdowns.

Cam Philips

Philips, who serves as PJ Walker's go-to receiver on the Roughnecks, has been playing at an elite level. Philips currently leads the league in receiving touchdowns with 4. He also has 12 receptions for 130 yards.

He had an unfortunate NFL career where he only lasted two games. His only stats in those games was one reception for nine yards. He had an impressive career at Virginia Tech where he had 3,027 yards, 17 touchdowns and averaged 12.8 yards per reception.

The player we are seeing in him today is not the same player he was during his two-game NFL stint.

Nelson Spruce

Nelson Spruce has really separated himself from the rest of the wide receivers in the XFL as he leads in yards (192) and receptions (17). He also has two touchdowns on the season thus far.

Spruce had a nice college career at UC Boulder where he finished his career with 3,348 yards and 23 touchdowns. Spruce did make the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the LA Rams and played in just one preseason game for them.

In that game, he looked great with 6 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, he suffered two leg injuries that forced him to the Injury Reserved list.
