NFL Week 1 Betting Trends To Know

  • The Los Angeles Rams have +115 odds to beat the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.
  • The Miami Dolphins are 3.5-point favorites against the New England Patriots.
  • The Cincinnati Bengals have covered the spread in 8 straight games.

LOS ANGELES – Week 1 of the NFL regular season is finally here and there are plenty of betting odds to get in on. However, before placing a bet on the NFL for any of the Week 1 matchups, there are different betting trends to keep in mind that could turn out a massive profit.

Trends Heading Both Ways For Rams Vs. Bills

In arguably the biggest game of the opening week, the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills will kick off the season on Thursday Night Football where Buffalo is a rare away team against the defending Super Bowl champions.

There are trends headed to each side that back up their odds. On the Bills side of things, since 2005, they are a league-best 12-5 against the spread in Week 1 matchups. 8 of which have come on the road.

As for the Rams, they have gone a perfect 5-0 both S/U and against ATS under Sean McVay in Week 1 games.

Patriots Can’t Handle The Heat Of South Beach

Moving on to the Sunday slate, the new-look Miami Dolphins will host the New England Patriots where they are going in as a 3.5-point favorite. This marks the first time since 2013 that the Dolphins are opening any game as the favorites over the Patriots.

Looking at the last nine games between Miami and New England that have taken place on South Beach, the Patriots have gone an abysmal 2-7 in that span. The public is also heavily relying on Miami in this one giving them 65% of bets and 69% of the betting handle to cover the spread.

Colts Looking To Continue Steamrolling Vs. Houston

Some might be hesitant to lay action on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 being that they are the largest favorite of the week at 8 points. However, if there was ever a time to take the biggest favorite of any week, this is the one to do so given the massive trends backing Indy.

In the last 11 games between the Colts and Houston Texans in Houston, Indianapolis has gone 9-1-1 ATS. Taking things even a step further, Frank Reich, the coach of the Colts, has gone 21-12-2 against the spread when playing on the road in his four-year coaching career.

Bengals Carrying Over ATS Streak Since Last Season

Although coming off of a Super Bowl loss, the Cincinnati Bengals are arguably the hottest team in the league against the spread. They are carrying over an 8-game winning streak ATS into Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and signs are pointing towards this streak extending as they are 6.5-point favorites.

Also, Cincy has done fairly well ATS in previous Week 1 matchups going 6-2-1 in their last nine. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, has been on a downwards slope since last season going 1-4 ATS in both their last five as a road underdog and road games in general.
