- Superstar defensive end JJ Watt has signed with the Arizona Cardinals, leading to online sportsbooks posting player props for the upcoming season.
- Watt’s Over/Under for combined sacks sits at 8.25 for -120 betting odds, while his total combined tackles and assists line is set at 56.5 for the same price.
GLENDALE, Ariz. – The free agency sweepstakes for all-star defensive end JJ Watt has come to an undramatic end, with the 10-year veteran electing to take his talents to the Arizona Cardinals.
JJ Watt is a five-time pro bowler and five-time all-pro selection who spent the first ten years of his career with the Houston Texans.
During that time, Watt became an unstoppable force off the defensive line, racking up 101 sacks, 409 solo tackles, and 25 forced fumbles.
While Watt was terrorizing quarterbacks, his Texans team never had the postseason success he so desperately worked for. With the departure of Deandre Hopkins and the current turmoil surrounding Deshaun Watson, Watt decided that now was the best time to move on from Houston, and look to greener pastures.
After a brief free agency period, Watt announced via his own Twitter that he would be signing with the Arizona Cardinals.
Later details revealed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed Watt would be joining Arizona on a two-year $31 million contract that includes $23 million of guaranteed money.
Despite being in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, the Cardinals just barely missed the playoffs in 2020, going 8-8. Arizona is hoping that an addition to the level of Watt’s will help take them over the edge into the playoffs.
Naturally, this move has inspired the major super bowl betting sites to post prop bets for Watt’s first season with the Cardinals.
Over/under betting odds are currently available for both Watt’s total sack numbers in 2021, and his combined tackles and assisted tackles count.
Total Combined Sacks In The 2021 Regular Season - J.J. Watt
- Over 8.25 -120
- Under 8.25 -120
For his career, Watt averages just over ten sacks a season, but has not reached that mark since 2018, when he racked up 16. Watt has had trouble with injuries in his past, but was able to play a full 16 games in 2020, where he collected five total sacks on the season.
Since 2015, Watt has only played two full seasons of football, and only went over eight sacks in that lone 2018 season. Obviously, when Watt is on his game and healthy, he is one of the most destructive players in NFL history.
In 2012 Watt put up a monumental 20.5 sacks on the season, only to do the exact same thing in 2014. He also acquired 17.5 sacks in 2015.
Watt is also no stranger to tackling in the open field, averaging 53.1 combined tackles and assisted tackles for his career.
Current NFL betting odds have his over/under listed at 56.6 for 2021.
Total Combined Tackles And Assists In The 2021 Regular Season - J.J. Watt
- Over 56.5 -120
- Under 56.4 -120
In a stacked Cardinals defense that features the likes of Budda Baker and Chandler Jones, there is no shortage of talented tacklers available.
Those looking to bet on NFL prop bets like this one should take into account if Watt will be able to share the stats with his fellow teammates.
Regardless of what numbers are put up, Watt has the potential to turn the Cardinals into a monstrous defensive unit that could put Arizona firmly in the playoff picture.
