CLEVELAND – In typical Cleveland Browns fashion, their opening Super Bowl odds (+3000) were praised by oddsmakers and have since fallen back (+4000) due to tons of offseason drama surrounding Deshaun Watson.
The Browns landed a blue-chip quarterback in Deshaun Watson which helped push their +3000 opening Super Bowl odds down to +1700 at one point. However, Watson has been suspended for 11 games this season due to his off-field actions which have caused all of their odds to take a drop back. Their conference title odds opened at +1600 and were cut in half to +800 after acquiring Watson, but not sit at +2200. Their odds to win the AFC North didn’t take too much of a dip as they only fell from +300 to +375.
The Browns did not make many offseason moves aside from Watson being that on paper, they were just a quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender. They did bring in Amari Cooper who is significantly more consistent than Jarvis Landry, who they lost. Without Watson under center though, none of those matters being that Jacoby Brissett hasn’t proven himself as a good starting QB in the league with a 14-23 record as QB1.
Nick Chubb Takeover
Being that there are expected inconsistencies in the passing game for the Browns, this opens up Nick Chubb to take over on offense as one of their only consistent pieces on that side of the ball. With that, his +1800 odds to win Offensive Player of the Year should not be ignored.
Chubb was top-10 across the board last season with 228 attempts (8th), 1,259 rushing yards (2nd), 8 touchdowns (10th), and 5.5 YPC (6th). Chubb was also top-10 when rushing in the redzone at 40 rushing attempts for 5 of his 8 touchdowns.
Also backing up his OPOY odds are his odds to lead the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns with +1000 odds at both. Both of which are top-5 on their respective odds boards.
His season totals are also expecting a massive season from him at 9.5 touchdowns and 1150.5 rushing yard projections.
