The Chiefs Are 9.5-Point Home Favorites Over the Houston Texans

  • The Houston Texans came back down 16-0 against the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.
  • The Kansas City Chiefs are currently riding a six-game winning streak.
  • Deshaun Watson led the league in game-winning drives this year with five.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The next round of the NFL playoffs is set to start this weekend. Of the four matchups, the one between the No. 4 seed Houston Texans (10-6) and the No. 2 seed Kansas City Chiefs (12-4) looks to be one of the most intriguing of the Divisional round.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to avenge their 31-24 Week 6 loss to the Houston Texans where Deshaun Watson found a way to lead Houston to a victory on the road.

Each team is led by a quarterback that was selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. As Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes was drafted with the tenth pick in that draft while Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was drafted two picks later with the twelfth overall pick.

Both quarterbacks were drafted with the expectation that they could lead their teams deep into the playoffs consistently and the young quarterbacks have exceeded those expectations early on in their careers.

However, as close as the quarterbacks might be in skill, sportsbooks have the Chiefs listed as 9.5-point favorites to beat the Texans at home. But, it must be noted that Kansas City has a 3-8 all-time postseason record at Arrowhead Stadium. So, there is certainly an opportunity for the Texans to pull off the upset here.

The 9.5-point spread is a wide margin and Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has been known to keep games close as he led the NFL in game-winning drives this season with five.

Betting ATS for the Chiefs in this game might not look to be the best bet because this game should be tightly contested much like the first time these two teams met this season. Taking the money line odds on the Chiefs -450 may be better and if you want to bet on the underdog Texans their odds are profitable at +360.

Those who are planning on betting the spread should know that the Chiefs 11-5 record ATS this season is much better than the Texans 8-8-1 record.

The total for this game is set at 51.5. With both Mahomes and Watson under center, the total is likely to go over as both teams have enough talent on offense to score in many ways. The game has the potential to be the highest-scoring game of the weekend.

With an AFC Championship berth on the line expect these teams to come out and play a physical game with MVP like performances coming from both quarterbacks.

This game is scheduled for a 3:05 p.m. EST Kickoff from Arrowhead Stadium and the game will be broadcasted by CBS.
