- Joe Burrow has +3500 odds to win MVP after Week 7 of the 2021 NFL season.
- Burrow was a +10000 longshot prior to his big game in Week 7.
CINCINNATI – Joe Burrow has been having a great season with the Cincinnati Bengals. He’s performing well enough where it’s a debate on whether he should be considered in the MVP conversation.
Is Joe Burrow An MVP Caliber Player?
The tricky thing about predicting the MVP is that there’s not a set criterion on what makes someone an MVP-caliber player. A player’s stats, the team’s record and others are all combined to make up a very subjective award.
However, no matter which way you cut it, Burrow fits the criteria and yet NFL betting sites have him relatively far down the odds board.
2021-22 NFL MVP Odds
- Josh Allen +375
- Kyler Murray +400
- Dak Prescott +500
- Tom Brady +725
- Matthew Stafford +800
- Aaron Rodgers +1200
- Justin Herbert +1800
- Derrick Henry +2200
- Derek Carr +2500
- Lamar Jackson +2500
- Joe Burrow +3500
- Patrick Mahomes +4000
Burrow is sixth in passing yards and tied for fourth in passing touchdowns, the Bengals are 5-2 on the season and currently leading their division. This should put him ahead of many other candidates, at least statistically.
Joe Burrow has thrown 17 Pass TD this season, tying Boomer Esiason (1988) for the most by a Bengals player through the team’s first 7 games of a season in franchise history.

For comparison, Burrow is averaging more passing yards per game than guys like Lamar Jackson, Ryan Tannehill and Aaron Rodgers, has more passing touchdowns than Dak Prescott, Josh Allen, Rodgers and Justin Herbert all while completing a higher percentage of passes than Rodgers, Derek Carr, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady and Herbert.
It should be noted that Burrow has yet to have his BYE week and has thrown the third-most interceptions in the NFL (8) which is likely the top reason as to why he’s further down the list.
How Burrow’s Odds Get Shorter
Simply put, he needs to continue playing like he has been and cut down on the turnovers. His odds have already dropped from +10000 before Week 7 to +3500. More performances like the one on Sunday (416 yards, 3 TDs) would result in further line movement.
Those using NFL betting sites should take note of the tough schedule the Bengals have for the rest of the season. Burrow will face six teams currently in the top 10 for the fewest passing yards allowed per game over the final 10 games of the season.
Although a tough slate of defenses, lighting it up against them would make it all the more impressive and build Burrow’s MVP case even more.
