KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Patrick Mahomes will face off against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14 for the second time this year.
When they last met, in Week 10, Mahomes threw for more than 400 passing yards as his Kansas City Chiefs romped to a 41-14 victory. At the time, many hailed it as the return of Mahomes to proper form, after he struggled with defensive schemes earlier in the year.
However, Mahomes’ two games since then paint it more as an outlier - he passed for 260 yards against the Dallas Cowboys, and 184 yards against the Denver Broncos.
Total Passing Yards Odds - Patrick Mahomes (KC)
- Over 289.5 -115
- Under 289.5 -115
Despite his struggles this year, Mahomes is expected to pass for far more than that in this rematch against the Raiders.
Mahomes has only passed for more than 289.5 yards four times this season, and two of those were in the first two weeks of the season, before teams began putting two safeties deep against him constantly.
However, Mahomes’ great performance against the Raiders in Week 10 should be remembered, as it was actually his highest yardage total of the season. The Raiders are a middle-of-the-road team in the context of passing yards allowed, letting up 230.6 pass yards per game, 13th in the NFL.
Total Touchdown Passes Odds - Patrick Mahomes (KC)
- Over 2.5 +120
- Under 2.5 -160
Mahomes started out the season throwing 14 touchdowns in four games, but has fallen off a cliff as defenses have started putting multiple safeties deep against him. In his last six games, he has one game with two or more touchdowns - his Week 10 beatdown of the Raiders, in which he passed for five.
Since Week 5, that is his one game that would have covered the O/U on this prop, after he passed for more than two touchdowns in all of his first four games.
Mahomes seems to have the Raiders’ number, even in a year where he’s struggling immensely. The question for NFL betting fans is whether or not this holds up, and if the Raiders can adjust after their previous beatdown.
The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, at 1 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on CBS and NFL Network.
